Burmacoccus sp. Cretaceous Myanmar Scale insects are strange looking sap-sucking insects which appear to have many legs; however, the extra legs are, in fact, waxy fingers secreted by special glands in the female which also coat the body of the insect. The waxy secretions resemble the scales of a reptile, hence their popular name. Scale insects are one of the few types of insects that are hermaphrodites.
