Beschreibung:

Translated from the German by A.W. Wheen. Gray buckram, top page edge stained red, color pictorial jacket. Second printing of the American edition. Remarque's classic about a disillusioned soldier dealing with the devastation wrought by WWI. Also, basis for the 1930 film directed by Lewis Milestone and the 1979 made-for-TV movie starring Richard Thomas and Ernest Borgnine. This second printing of the American edition is virtually identical to the first printing, save for the statement "Second Printing" on the copyright page; the dust jacket is also much the same as that on the first printing, with the addition of the statement at the bottom of the rear flap, "First American Printing 100,000 Copies; Second American Printing 20,000 copies", indicating this printing is much scarcer than the first. Ownership signature on front free endpaper, "May McDonald Grace, June 15th, 1929, Santa Rosa, California."
