R. Crumb Handwritten Letter, 2009 Author: Crumb, Robert Place: Publisher: Date: Description: Original letter hand-written by R. Crumb in pencil on 8.5" x 11" paper. Dated January 7, 2009. Signed "R. Crumb." Very fine condition, short tear and light edgewear top edge. Crumb's 21st c. epistolary technique is as follows: his brother-in-law Alex prints out emails addressed to Crumb; the un-tech-savvy Crumb writes his response on paper; Alex transcribes the handwritten letter into email, sends the email to the correspondent and saves the letter. A collector has latterly made an exclusive deal to obtain Crumb's handwritten email drafts; thus, these "email letters" are now essentially off the market. "I am flattered that you want to use my drawing for your band logo, but I'm not so sure that it's a good idea..." Crumb's response to a rock band called the ZigZag Wanderers, strongly advising them not to use his artwork as a band logo, but not outright prohibiting it: "...The drawing is so closely identified with R. Crumb that it would be misleading... Also, there's the fact that I personally DISLIKE electric rock music intensely." Crumb signs off, "But, hey, good luck, anyway, and may the good Lord take a likin' to you!" The band's Facebook page shows that they followed Crumb's counsel and didn't use his artwork for their logo (maybe that's why they only have 340 "likes"). Consignments Accepted for PBA's Next Comic Book Auction. Golden Age, Silver Age, Pre-Code, Original Art, Interesting Ephemera Sought. Contact ivan@pbagalleries.com for details. PBA COMICS March 26th Comic Book Sale catalogues available. Supplies Limited. Softcover catalogues limited to 200 copies ($45 + $5 postage/handling). Hardcovers limited to 26 lettered copies, dust jackets, special limitation plates ($150). Contact ivan@pbagalleries.com. Lot Amendments Condition: Item number: 312567
