Qur'an Qajar Persia, AH 1232/1816-17 AD manuscript on polished cream paper, 289ff. plus three flyleaves, each with 17ll. of elegant black naskh , punctuation in red, gold rosettes between verses, blue, red, green and gold margins between black rules, blue outer rule, gold and red outer margins between black rules, gold and polychrome illuminated marginal medallions marking the divisions of text, similar medallions in each upper outer corner giving the sura title, marginal notes in black nasta'liq , sura headings in gold thuluth on blue cartouches in illuminated panels, (occasional creasing, a few small repairs, negligible staining), opening bifolio illuminated in gold and polychrome (one small area of smudging), final folio with colophon dedicated to Aga Mirza Mahmud al-Mustawi, signed by Muhammad 'Ali b. Muhammad al-Isfahani and dated 1(2)32, contemporary lacquer binding with a finely painted central bouquet of flowers on a glitter ground in a floral cartouche border within gold and green minor borders, red lacquer doublures finely painted with an iris and another flower with a butterfly hovering beside, in gold and black border, (small chips to edges) folio 11½ x 7½in. (29.3 x 19cm.) text 7¾ x 4½in. (19.8 x 11.5cm.)
