Light and somewhat uneven tone, small obverse rim nick and a few small marks, very fine. Trooper Herbert Pilbeam, of Hastings, Sussex, enlisted for service with Robert’s Horse at East London on the 11th of February 1901, having previously worked as a Sailor. Whilst serving with this regiment during the Boer War he contracted Enteric Fever whilst stationed near Klerksdorp, and spent two months in hospital recovering from this life-threatening illness. Sold with copy ‘record of service’ papers of rather scant detail, and copy roll mention.
