PUTEANI, Erici (1574-1646) - Historiae Mediolanensis seu insubricae ab origine gentis ad Othonem Magn. Imp. Frankfurt and Leipzig: Johannes Grossius, 1686. An important work on the history of the Insubri, an ancient population that settled in Lombardy in the fifth century, making Milan their stronghold. The first edition dates back to 1636 and the author was an historian, humanist and philologist from the Netherlands, he studied at Dordrecht and Cologne and became professor at University of Leuven. 4to (200 x 160mm). Title printed in red and black, folding genealogical table (a little browned, some occasional staining, modern endpapers, without blank a4). Contemporary vellum with modern manuscript titles and decorations, red edges (some staining and restorations), preserved in an elegant modern case.
