PUSHKIN, Alexander Sergeevich (1799-1837). Sochineniia . [Works.] St. Petersburg: Expedition for the Preparation of Government Papers, and I. Glazunov, 1838-1841. 11 volumes, 8º (218 x 140mm). With all half-titles. Engraved portrait by Utkin, and a leaf reproducing Pushkin's handwriting. (Lacking leaves 17.5 and 18.8 in vol. 4, and 10.5 in vol. 9, some spotting and dampstaining, some short marginal tears occasionally with small loss.) Contemporary Russian roan, flat spine tooled in blind, edges sprinkled red (worn, some hinges split, remnants of paper labels on each spine). Provenance : F. A. (Cyrillic blind stamp at the foot of each spine) -- A[rkadii] Lalevich (presentation inscription to:) -- Ismail Lalevich (signature in each volume) -- G. Lalevich (stamp in each volume).

THE FIRST COLLECTED EDITION OF PUSHKIN'S WORKS , which includes work not published in the poet's lifetime. The first 8 volumes were planned and edited by his friend V.A. Zhukovskii and the last three were published by subscription by Il'ia Glazunov; the first of these, volume 9, bearing the publisher's signature certifying that it is copy no.4986. Fekula 5041 ('scarce'); Kilgour 890 (Zaikin imprint); Smirnov-Sokol'skii, Pushkin, 44.
