Property from the Masterworks of Time CollectionVienna, AustriaA rock crystal and enamel cruciform watch in mid-17th century style bearing the signature Ettienne [sic] Bordier19th century • Movement: cruciform gilded, highly decoratively engraved backplate, three-armed balance without rim, the cock with long foot and pierced and engraved with scrolling flowers and foliage, fusee and gut line, baluster pillars, bearing the signature Ettienne [sic] Bordier fecit • Dial: gilded, engraved with panels depicting saints and Adam & Eve in the garden, silver chapter ring with Roman numerals and half hour divisions, dial centre with champlevé enamel flower head, all bordered with green champlevé enamel, single blued steel hand• Case: multi-faceted rock crystal with silver mounts, stylised floriate-form pendant length including pendant 85mmA mid-17th century watchmaker is recorded by the name of Etienne Bordier. It is probable that the maker of this watch chose to sign it with the Bordier name in order that it might appear in keeping with the style of the watch.Condition reportMovement: running at time of cataloguing. Winding is smooth, hand setting also appears ok. Dial: small marks and scratches throughout. Case: scratches throughout to silver mounts. Some variance in enamel colouration, some chips. Rock crystal covers have some chips to the edges of the front and back panels, at least one of the side panels has been repaired with a soft resin.
