Proof National Bank Note Company salesman's sample book of postage stamp large die proofs, 39 virtually all different large die proofs on India, each mounted (all but one die sunk) on original 5 5/8" x 8¾" cards and bound in beautiful hardbound book with red half-leather and marbled covers, 'N.B.N.C.' stamped in gold, 32 are large die proofs of U.S. stamps incl. sets of the 1861 issue (all values represented), 1869 Pictorials and the 1870-71 Bank Notes, balance incl. large die proof of an 1870 U.S. gold coin (probably quite rare), two Hawaiian stamps (31P1 and 32P1) and four Peruvian revenues, virtually all are exceptionally fresh and the book is remarkably well-preserved, each proof has a small pencil notation at extreme B.R., highlights of the 1861 issue incl. nos. 65, 70 (trial color large die proof in Violet), 73a, 76 two (in two different shades of Brown) and 77, the 1869 Pictorials incl. 3c, 15c, 24c, 30c and 90c (last is a hybrid as always), the 15c and 24c are actually large die essays with the vignettes pasted on (119-E1c and 120-E3a, Scott retail of each $2,500.00), 1870-71 Bank Notes are complete, the only hybrid present is no. 122P1, all others are true large die proofs, no. 71 is additionally overprinted 'Specimen' and has a printed N.B.N.C. imprint at bottom center, virtually all are very fine-extremely fine , a magnificent and extremely rare N.B.N.C. sample book, since every book varies very slightly in composition, the specific combination of proofs in this book is most likely unique, Scott retail $25,750.00 (U.S. gold coin and Peruvian revenue stamp proofs are not valued)
