Beschreibung:

[Project Gemini] The first two-man American spacecraft: sectionised model showing the three major components of the Gemini spacecraft. NASA, March 1965. Printed 1965. Vintage chromogenic print on fiber-based Kodak paper [NASA image S-65–16837]. 20.3×25.4 cm (8×10 in), with NASA caption numbered “S-65–16837” and “A Kodak Paper” watermarks on the verso, numbered “S-65–16837” in red in top margin (NASA Manned Spacecraft Center, Houston, Texas). [NASA caption] GEMINI SPACECRAFT – Sectionised model showing the three major components of the Gemini spacecraft. On left is the reentry module; in center is retro-rocket section; and on right is equipment section. NASA named the Gemini spacecraft and program after the constellation Gemini. The name is Latin for ‘twins’. NASA used this name because the Gemini capsule would carry two people. Unlike the Mercury astronauts, the Gemini crew could control their capsule. The spacecraft’s orbital maneuvering rockets allowed it to be truly ‘flown’ in orbit, a capability that was vital to completing their missions.
