Or, lapis-lazuli et aragonite. L: 43 cm Carl Kempe (1884-1967) Carl Kempe est issu d'une famille germanique de la region de Stralsund et installee en Suede a la fin du XVIIIe siecle. Son pere, Frans Kempe, fut a l'origine d'une compagnie d'exploitation forestiere et devint l'un des grands entrepreneurs suedois. Il etudia a l'ecole Norra latinlaroverket de Stockholm puis a l'universite d'Uppsala entre 1903 et 1905. En 1906, il travailla dans l'entreprise familiale et en prit la tete en 1917. Pratiquant le tennis, il decrocha une medaille d'argent aux Jeux Olympiques d'ete de 1912, en double messieurs avec Gunnar Setterwall. Il pretendait, peut-etre de facon anecdotique, que son gout pour les bijoux antiques en or provenait de sa deception de n'avoir pas remporte de medaille en or aux Jeux Olympiques. En 1917, il acquit le chateau d'Ekolsund, ancienne residence du roi Gustave III sur le lac Malar. En 1920, il debuta une collection de ceramiques chinoises, puis d'orfevrerie antique, conseille par l'historien d'art Bo Gyllensvard. Ces collections, conservees a Ekolsund, ont ete revelees au public par diverses publications et expositions dans les annees 1950 et 1960. Une partie a ete vendue par Sotheby's a Hong-Kong (11 avril 2008) et a Londres (14 mai 2008). Nous presentons aujourd'hui la majeure partie de la collection de bijoux en or antiques, islamiques et antiquisants qu'il avait rassemblee. Il s'agit d'une rare occasion d'acquerir des bijoux archeologiques issus d'une ancienne collection constituee entre 1950 et 1967. Carl Kempe was born to a German family of the Stralsund region, settled in Sweden at the late 18th century. His father, Frans Kempe, started a logging company and became one of Sweden's leading entrepreneurs. He studied at the Norra Latinläroverket School in Stockholm and then at Uppsala University between 1903 and 1905. In 1906, he worked in the family business and took over as Director in 1917. Playing tennis, he won a silver medal at the 1912 Summer Olympic Games, in men's doubles with Gunnar Setterwall. He claimed, perhaps anecdotally, that his taste for gold antique jewellery stemmed from his disappointment at not winning a gold medal at the Olympic Games. In 1917, he acquired Ekolsund Castle, the former residence of King Gustav III on Lake Malar. In 1920, Kempe started a collection of Chinese ceramics, then antique silverware, advised by the Art Historian Bo Gyllensvärd. These collections, housed in Ekolsund, were revealed to the public through various publications and exhibitions in the 1950s and 1960s. A part was sold by Sotheby's in Hong Kong (April 11th, 2008) and London (May 14th, 2008). Today we are offering for auction the major part of the collection of Antique, Islamic and Antique-style gold jewellery built up by Karl Kempe. This is a rare opportunity to acquire antique jewellery issued from an old collection created between 1950 and 1967.
