Plate 19, of Astrarchia Stephaniae/Princess Stephanie's Bird of Paradise, a resident of the Owen Stanley Range in Southeastern New Guinea. Hand-colored lithographic plate painted by William Matthew Hart taken from Richard Bowdler Sharpe's Monograph of the Paradiseidae, or Birds of Paradise, and Ptilorhynchidae, or Bower-birds, London: Sotheran, 1891-1898. Title centered below image. Credits lower left in italics, W. Hart del. et lith., and lower right, Mintern Bros., imp.; plate size 22" x 15", untrimmed. Text page included. John Gould (1804-1881), one of the most important ornithological illustrators of the 19th century, was born in Lyme Regis, Dorset, in 1804.
