PRESIDENTS]. MADISON, JAMES. Autograph document signed in full as President, n.p., 17 July 1816, one page, an oblong, 85 x 196mm. (3 3/8 x 7 11/16 in.), small cancellation slits, a check, drawn on the "Office of pay & deposit of the Bank of Columbia," directing them to pay $50 to a Willaim A. Colman -- JAMES MONROE. Autograph letter signed to an unnamed correspondent, Oak Hill, 14 March 1828, one page, 4to, integral blank (detached) letter with light matburn : "At the instance of my friends in Albemarle, a number of copies, of my memoirs &c have been printed in a pamphlet, several of which have been appropriated to my use, of which I have the pleasure to send you one. We indulge a hope of seeing you here soon. I have the pleasure to inform you that Mrs. Monroe's health is improving, and that we have a fair prospect of her being soon restored, to a better state than she has enjoyed for some time past. We have kept our grand daughter, as ignorant of her indisposition as we could....." (2)
