Fillmore is certain "there was some complaint against him," but he "is gentlemanly in his appearance and in delicate health....My sympathies are excited for him," and "if you concur, I will give him the appointment...." --MONROE, JAMES. Autograph letter signed to George Graham Oak Hill, 8 October 1825, 1 page, 4to, integral address leaf, recommending a West Point appointment for the son of a Virginia neighbor, Richard P. Bayly, and urging Graham to interview the young man--BUCHANAN, JAMES. Autograph letter signed to P.H. Nicklin, Washington, D.C., 19 June 1838, 1 page, 4to, integral blank : "...In my opinion, the International Copy Right Bill will not pass, & may probably not be considered, during the present session [of Congress]" -- CLEVELAND, GROVER.
