Letter signed as President, to an unidentified "Madam," Washington, D.C., 30 January 1850, 1 full page, 4to, right margin lightly browned : "We have received a jar of excellent butter, which you were so kind as to send us through Mrs. Ewing, and I beg that you will accept the best thanks of Mrs. Taylor and myself..." -- MARTIN VAN BUREN. Autograph letter signed as President, to M. Bullin, W[ashington, D.C.], 15 July 1840, 1 page, 4to, blue stationery , "The enclosed letter from John will explain the tax I want to impose upon your friendship..." -- DAVID R. ATCHISON, Acting President for one day . Autograph letter signed to Secretary of the Navy J.C. Dobbin, Washington, D.C., 4 January 1855, 1 page, 4to , recommending a St. Louis man "of high standing" for a naval appointment -- MILLARD FILLMORE.
