Fred Plaut (1907-1985) was a German-born recording engineer who served as the Chief Engineer of Columbia Records during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. During this time he worked with hundreds of singers, actors, and celebrities, and often used the occasions to practice his other passion, photography - personal study in particular. In 1948, Plaut met General Dwight D. Eisenhower regarding a recording of his V-E Day speech and said of this study, "It was a real challenge to capture this bit of personality rarely seen in an Eisenhower portrait." (poyi.org)
