Beschreibung:

Lot of 2, including 1778 land deed for Potts Town, PA and a 1797 land deed for Hanover Township, Montgomery County (formerly Philadelphia), PA, both on vellum. First is 14 x 25 in., Philadelphia, 21 Dec. 1782. This is a particularly interesting document, since it begins with an explanation that the land was confiscated by the city of Philadelphia, since John Potts was convicted of High Treason for aid and assistance given to the Army of the King of Great Britain ...against us and the United States, and failed to appear before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania to answer to these charges. Pennsylvania seized his property, "real and personal," and apparently sold much at auction. A lot in Potts Town went to Major General Arthur Sinclair, being the highest and best bidder, for 6700 pounds. Retains seal. Second is 19 x 32.75 in., with "breadboard" cut top, 1 Apr. 1797, New Hanover Township, Montgomery County (formerly Philadelphia), PA. For 95 acres, a grist mill and saw mill from Andrew & Barbara Ortlip (sometimes spelled Ortlib in doc.) to John Rees Condition: Folds and expected surface soiling. Most ink still readable, except in some tight folds. Overall, very good.
