This lot consists of a portrait of Peter Gross, painted by G. S. Truesdell, dated 1887, as noted by the didactic on the verso and by the note on the bottom left corner of the painting. Gross is depicted wearing a grey suit coat, a white collared shirt and a blue tie with a gold pin. He is seated at a quarter profile and looks head on to the viewer with his kind and inquisitive eyes. He has the expression on his face as if he just thought of a question to ask the viewer. Truesdell has Gross seated in front of a red colored background. An envelope with history on the artist is also found in the crack of the frame on the verso. The painting is framed in an ornately carved wooden gild frame. Overall the painting is in good condition wit normal wear present. The piece has heavy craquelure present however it does not interfere with the composition. Condition: (Very Good - Excellent). Item Dimensions: Framed: 27-1/4" x 21-3/4".
