Place: London Publisher: Ackermann Date: 1813 Description: xv, 215 pp. 21 colored aquatint plates by Thomas Rowlandson (8vo) 23x14.5 cm (9x5¾") period full calf, rebacked with original spine laid down. First Edition. "The originals of the plates introduced in this volume were sketches made as souvenirs of the place during a visit to Scarsborough in 1812" -- from the prefatory Advertisement. A landmark illustrated book, which was so much in demand that the plates in the reprints show considerable wear. Plate 8 “The Warm Bath” purportedly shows George IV’s mistress in the nude. Abbey, Scenery 269; Prideaux, pp. 144-145; Tooley 422. Lot Amendments Condition: Binding worn; some offsetting and light foxing within; very good. Item number: 250359
