Parallel English and French titles, both printed in red and black with a large engraved vignette, dedication in English with large engraved headpiece of the royal coat-of-arms of George II, parallel English and French text, 20 engraved plates by J. Pine, after J. Highmore, all but one double-page, engraved head- and tailpieces and initials, list of subscribers at end. (A few clean tears at centre folds, just affecting image of one plate, one plate creased, light, mainly marginal, spotting or thumb-soiling.) Contemporary calf, wide gilt floral border on sides, lavishly decorated gilt in 10 compartments, lettered in one, gilt edges (extremities rubbed, a few scuff marks on covers). FIRST EDITION, an attractive copy. In 1725 John Pine asked Joseph Highmore (1692-1780) to make 20 drawings for engravings of the recently revived order of the Knight's of Bath, including a portrait of the Duke of Richmond. Some copies contain an additional plate "The arms of the four Knights Companions of the Bath". Cohen-de-Ricci 803 (has a copy with 21 plates); Lowndes 1869.
