Signed ‘Pierre Ino’ (lower right) Oil on canvas 55 x 46 cm Provenance: Private collection, South of France "Ino's paintings are an open window on the realm of dreams, on the realm of imagination." - Georges Annenkov Serge Ino’s painting presents a fusion of fantastic compositions, with elements from zoology, botany, mechanics, occult sciences and astrology. Despite the resemblance of his paintings to the surrealists, he has always denied any affiliation with this movement. Born in Saint Petersburg in 1909 into a family of artists, he was a stepson of the Russian graphic artist, ceramicist, and painter Sergey Chekhonin He worked at the State Porcelain Manufactory, decorating porcelain plates and bowls with revolutionary monograms and slogans under Sergey Chekhonin Chekhonin went to Paris in 1928 to prepare an exhibition of Soviet porcelain and posters and never returned. Petr emigrated with him and took a pseudonym Serge Ino (from Russian - «other» or a «foreigner»). Serge Ino participated in many exhibitions with Sergey Chekhonin R. Falk, and N. Altman. His paintings were exhibited in France and abroad, including the A Gallery. Weil Gallery, the Hammer Gallery in New York, the Salon des Indépendants (1940, 1952) and Musee Galliera (1971).
