74 photos by Shmuel Joseph Schweig. [Eretz Israel, 1920s]. Remarkable early photos of good quality; including: panorama of Afula; winery in Zichron Ya'akov; erection of an electric pole in Tiberias; Ayun waterfall next to Metula; "Silicat" factory in Tel-Aviv; "Kfar Yeladim" educational institute (founded in 1922, today in the city of Afula); Tiberias hot springs and tomb of R' Meir Ba'al HaNess; R' Yochanan Ben Zakai synagogue in Jerusalem; Western Wall; synagogue in Rehovot; Eliyahu's cave in Mount Carmel, Haifa; "Made in Israel" trade show and fair; and more. The photos are numbered on the reverse. Some photos are numbered and titled on the reverse by hand (possibly Schweig's handwriting). Shmuel Joseph Schweig (1902-1984) – a leading photographer in Eretz Israel in the 1920s-30s. Native of Tarnopol, Galicia. Studied photography in Vienna. Immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1922. Since 1925 worked as a photographer for JNF and documented through his camera the development of Eretz Israel and its views. Founded a photography studio on HaNevi'im Street in Jerusalem and was the curator of photography at the Rockefeller Museum. Was also involved in archaeological photography. Worked for the Mandatory Police and managed the photography department of the Jewish Agency. Sizes and conditions vary. Average size: 16X11 cm. From the collection of Arnie Druck.
