Pétrus--Vintage 1961
11 bottles per lot
THE 1961 PETRUS It is hard to imagine a world without Pétrus, for in the sphere of wine, Pétrus circles and radiates its influence like a celestial body. Pétrus is the ultimate expression of the opulence and charm that right bank wines can deliver when at their best. The wine is extraordinarily rich, powerful and conectrated often with characteristics of chocolate, truffles, Asian spices and unltra-ripe, creamy black fruits. Usually approachable within a decade, Pétrus wines from top vintages continue to appreaciate for many more years. As Stephen Brook writes in The Complete Bordeaux "the name Pétrus conjures up Bordeaux at its most splendid, most rarified, and most luxurious...Pétrus is a sumptuous wine." Pétrus--Vintage 1961 Pomerol, cru exceptionnel Lot 118 levels: three very top shoulder, nine top shoulder; two very lightly corroded capsules, one nicked capsule, one very lightly nicked label, very slight signs of old seepage on tissue, "Leeds Import Corporation" neck tags, "Shipped by Etablissements Duclot Fils & Cie" strip labels, in original wooden case stamped "Imported by Forman Bros Inc, Washington via Baltimore, Port of Discharge Baltimore," branded Pétrus on one side without vintage, vintage and contents stamp on other side, tissue wrapped prior to specialist inspection Lot 119 levels: four very top shoulder, four top shoulder, one upper shoulder, one upper mid shoulder, one mid shoulder; three lightly corroded capsules, two nicked capsules, two lightly bin soiled labels, two pencil-marked labels, one nicked label, "Leeds Import Corporation" neck tags, nine bottles with "Shipped by Etablissements Duclot Fils & Cie" strip labels "Ex-John Armit in London, our bottle of 1961 Pétrus is a legendary wine. On this occasion, our bottle was richly fruit, with notes of prune, fig, truffle and mineral. The wine did not seem very evolved, yet it was not particularly forthcoming on the nose. On the palate one senses the power and strength of Pétrus - this bottle seemed to be holding a bit in reserve, yet it was a powerful, concentrated wine with a long finish and a longer future in front of it." CC, Dinner at Sha Tin 18, Hong Kong, May 2011 11 bottles per lot
