Petit Nègre Jouant de l'Accordéon Musical Automaton by Vichy, c. 1900 With plaster-composition head, brown glass eyes, articulated eyelids, fleecy wig and painted bisque hands, seated barefoot on velvet-covered stool containing going-barrel movement that plays two airs (a waltz and "The Soldiers' Chorus" from Gounod's "Faust") as the musician turns and nods his head, plays the accordion with his left hand, blinks and swings his right leg in time to the music, dressed in checked silk jacket with green satin lapels, matching breeches and cap, ht. 22 in. (56 cm), predominantly original paint – some unobtrusive retouch on the left cheek, base recovered, a couple of dampers in need of adjustment, replacement brass stop/start button. With long size 9 steel key. – Attractively modeled automaton in good working condition, the rarer counterpart to the "Petit Nègre Jouant du Banjo" by Vichy, see Auction Team Breker, 7 November 2015, Lot 644. – Literature: Bailly, "Automata, the Golden Age", p. 237 for similar automaton dressed as a girl. Musik-Puppenautomat "Petit Nègre Jouant de l'Accordéon" von Vichy, um 1900 Kopf aus Gips, braune Glasaugen mit beweglichen Lidern, flauschige Perücke, bemalte Porzellan-Hände, barfuß auf einem mit Samt überzogenen Hocker sitzend, Federwerkantrieb, Walzenspielwerk mit 2 Melodien (ein Walzer und "Soldaten-Chor" aus Gounods "Faust"). Der Musiker dreht den Kopf und nickt, bewegt mit der linken Hand das Akkordeon, zwinkert und schwingt mit dem rechten Bein im Takt zu der Musik; gekleidet in karierter Seidenjacke mit grünem Revers, dazu passender Hose und Kappe, Höhe 56 cm. Überwiegend Original-Farbe, linke Wange unauffällig retuschiert, Sockel neu bezogen, einige Dämpfer benötigen Regulierung, Starthebel erneuert. Mit Stahlschlüssel Größe 9.
