No Cross, No Crown: or several Sober Reasons against Hat-Honour, Titular-Respects.... [London]: 1669. BOUND WITH: HAWORTH, WILLIAM. The Quaker Convert to Christianity Re-Established. London: 1674. BOUND WITH: OATES, TITUS. 1649-1705. [An Exact] Discovery of the Mystery of Iniquity as it is Now in Practice amongst the Jesuits. London: Tho. James for Benj. Harris, 1679 BOUND WITH: [OVERBURY, SIR THOMAS. 1581-1613]. [A Wife, Now the Widdow, of Sir Thomas Overburie.] (lacking first 4 leaves). 4to (180 x 134 mm). 18th century paneled calf. Lacking title page and last 4 leaves, some tears with loss of text. Provenance: Earl of Macclesfield (armorial bookplate). A sammelband of 17th century works, highlighted by Penn's provocative tract. The work was written while Penn was already in prison in the Tower of London for writing Quaker tracts that did not sit well with the English Monarchy. It wasn't until some years later that he proposed the idea of a Quaker settlement in North America. Sabin 5972.
