Second German edition of Pausanias’s travel account, following the first printed in Frankfurt in 1583 (editio princeps, Aldus Manutius Venice 1516). The book was edited by the famous Hellenist Wilhelm Holtzmann, who Hellenized his name to Xylander. Xylander did not finish the publication of Pausanias except for the first five volumes and the work was carried on by Fr. Sylburgius in 1583. The travel account of Greece by Pausanias (110180 A.C.) is one of the first comprehensive travel accounts in human history. Describes in high details Peloponnesus and some other parts of Greece. A basic source for Roman Greece. Contemporary fullleather professionally repaired, spine with raised bands and blindstamped decorations in gilt, large coat of arms in gilt on both boards "Eagle with cross looking left, Sun along with crescent & increscent and helmet on top".
