Two-piece gilt brass eagle plate with shield and crossed sabers. Front of shield has a number "7" indicating 7th US Cavalry. Pattern 1887 darker yellow plume. Gold bullion cords. Leather and brass chain link chin strap. Inside lined in a maroon satin lining. Marked on the inside of the visor Beach in ink. Per Heitman, Francis Henry Beach was West Point, graduating July 1883, ranked 37th. Commissioned 2nd Lieut., 1st Cavalry 6/12/87; 2nd Lieut.,transferred to 6th Cavalry 10/5/87; promoted 1st Lieut. 1/24/95, transferred to 7th Cavalry; promoted Capt. 2/2/01. S.: reported at Hdqrs. 3rd Cavalry and assigned to 3rd Squadron, Fort Ringgold, Texas; at Washington, D. C, student officer at Army War College. Aug. 16, 1914, to June 30, 1915; at Fort Riley. Kans., student officer at School of Equitation, Sept. 15 to Dec. 15, 1915; with regiment on border to (Lieut. Jan. 3 to 25, 1919; returned to New York with Brigade, arriving Jan. 21, 1919, and proceeded with it to Camp Sherman, Ohio; at Camp Sherman, commanding 158th Depot Brigade, March 5 to April 28, 1919; at Walter Reed General Hospital, D.
