Patek Philippe Gondolo 18K gold 24-hour pocket watch Print Circa 1916, Geneva, Switzerland 18K rose gold Chronometro Gondolo, made for Gondolo & Labouriau, Relojoeiros Dial: 24-hour white porcelain dial, black Arabic numerals, red numerals at 6, 12, 18, and 24, sub-seconds, outer minute track, gold spade hands, black sub-seconds hand, signed: Patek Philippe & Cie Genève / Chronometro Gondolo Movement: 21 jewel, #177373, gilt movement body and 9k gold train wheels, straight line moustache lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, Breguet blued steel balance spring with Patek Philippe micrometric cam regulator Case: 18K rose gold open-face case in 4 pieces, engine-turned and polished, hinged gold cuvette, #280002, triple hallmarked, cuvette reads: Chronometro Gondolo / No 177303 Patek Philippe & Cie Genève / Fabrocado Expressamente Para Gondolo & Labouriau Relojoeiros Rio De Janeiro 56mm Dia. 127 grams gross est: $30,000/40,000 Notes: At the turn of the 20th century the owners of the Rio de Janeiro-based Gondolo & Labouriau (Carlos Gondolo & Paulo Labouriau) collaborated and commissioned Patek Philippe to create a high-quailty luxury watch exclusively for their firm. The result was a calibre called “Chronometro Gondolo,” the specifications of which were based on Adrien Philippe’s patented design (US patent No. 20483 of Jan 13, 1891): a 9k gold train, straight line “moustache“ lever escapment, cut bi-metallic compensation balance, a Breguet balance spring, a minimum of 18 jewels, and to incorporate François Wilmot’s patented micrometric cam regulator (US patent No. 129197 registered on July 16, 1872). Condition: Very good overall condition. Winds, sets and runs. Dial in very good condition. Movment in very good condition with slight scratches. Case in good condition with some over-polished edges to engine-turned hinged lid and two scratches.
