John Bushnan is listed on p. ii of Parry's introduction as Assistant Surveyor on board the Fury . Parry's three voyages in search of a Northwest Passage spanned 1819-20, 1821-23 anmd 1824-25. Parry chose Bushnan as his Assistant Surveyor on the second voyage, and Bushnan was to join Franklin on his journey to the mouth of the Mackenzie River, but Bushnan died prematurely. Franklin wrote of him: "Lieut. Bushnan, who had served under Captains Ross and Parry, was appointed to accompany me but, long before the party was to leave England, I had to lament the death of that excellent young officer."
