Boston: William Carter and Brother, 1863, second ed. 12mo, printed paper wraps, 36pp. Rear wrap missing; front cover detached. Minor edge scuffing. Lower inner crn. of tp torn. Disbound; stitching has come out. Stanton, Edwin M. Report of the Secretary of War, Communicating, in compliance with a resolution of the Senate of the 26th of May, a copy of the prelimiary report, and also of the final report of the American Freedmen's Inquiry Commission. Senate Ex. Doc. No. 53, 38th Congress, 1st session, 1864. 8vo, disbound, 110pp. Marbled page edges remain. Some toning of page edges. Minor damp stains lower edge of back leaf. Generally, the investigators found the freedmen in surprisingly good condition, and, at least in the city of Washington, not in need of any relief. Eliot, Thomas D. Speech of Thomas D. Eliot, of Massachusetts, Delivered in the House of Representatives Feb. 10, 1864, on the bill for the establishment of a Bureau of Freedmen's Affairs. Washington: H.
