Originally established in 1875, the Palace was San Francisco’s first premier luxury hotel and the largest in the world. The engraving originally appeared in The California Spirit of the Times and Underwriter's Journal in 1883. A later printing of Burger & Evans No. 181 (Historic Lithographs of San Francisco, 1972).
