Pair: Private D. S. Burgess Royal Marine Light Infantry Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 3 clasps, Tel-El-Kebir, Suakin 1885, Tofrek (D. S. Burgess Pte. R.M.); Khedive’s Star 1882, unnamed as issued, contact marks and pitting from star, therefore nearly very fine, scarce (2) £400-£500 Footnote Provenance: Captain K. J. Douglas-Morris Collection, Dix Noonan Webb, October 1996 (Egypt and Sudan Medal only). Approximately 36 Egypt and Sudan Medals with this clasp combination awarded to the Royal Marines. Daniel Burgess was born at Chatham, Kent on 6 May 1863, and attested there for the Royal Marine Light Infantry as a Drummer on 9 July 1878 He served with the “Mediterranean Battalion” from 29 June 1882 until 23 October 1882, and having been promoted Corporal on 30 December 1882, as a member of the “R.M. Battalion, Egypt” from 10 February 1884 until 8 May 1885. Demoted to Private on 4 March 1885, he subsequently served in H.M.S Boscawen (1888-90) and H.M.S. Garnet (1890-93) and died, whilst at Plymouth, of pneumonia on 26 June 1893. Sold with copied service papers and other research.
