Pair of Meissen Porcelain Malabar Figures Modeled as a man or a woman dressed in chinoiserie attire, the female carrying a fruit filled basket, the male with a quiver filled with arrows slung over his back. Height of taller 14 1/8 inches.
Male Figure: Chips and losses include the hat tip and brim of hat; both ends of arrow; large loss to front or top end of the figure's sword (now overpainted in gold); firing lines in the porcelain body visible on the left wrist, right breast area, crevice area of sword and most visibly, at the top of the legs, in the front, which is in fact fully separted and open; another firing line is visible on the back side of the robe and also on the base. Center drill hole on underside. Meissen mark has been gouged out and two cancel marks are visible. Incised numeraL "823" on underside. Female Figure: Fully half of the basket handle has been broken off and is missing; losses to leaf tips accompanying fruit basket; black discoloration spot to the center of her forehead; there are four firing (split) lines on the underside of base; drill hole in center of base; Meissen mark has been gouged out and canceled marks are still visible; impressed numeral "85" on underside.
