Pair: Lieutenant-Colonel H. A. Cameron, C.I.E., Royal Engineers British War and Victory Medals (Lt. Col. H. A. Cameron.) BWM officially re-impressed, very fine Pair: S. Burns, Mercantile Marine British War and Mercantile Marine War Medals (Stephen - Burns -) naming re-engraved on both, very fine 1914-15 Star (14372 Pte. W. E. Matthews. Devon: R.); British War Medal 1914-20 (3) (Capt. G. M. Johnston.; 7783 Pte. J. Lindie. R. S. Fus.; 22676 Pte. A. Somerville. K.O. Sco. Bord.) generally very fine or better (8) £80-£120 Footnote Hugh Alan Cameron was created a Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire in the 1917 New Year’s Honours’ List (London Gazette 1 January 1917), whilst employed as Traffic Manager, North-Western Railway of India, ‘in recognition of meritorious service in connection with the War’, and subsequently served with the Royal Engineers in the Mesopotamian theatre of War from 24 February 1917. William E. Matthews attested for the Devonshire Regiment and served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 1 March 1915. He was discharged on 5 April 1916, and was awarded a Silver War Badge. George Mitchell Johnston was commissioned in the Royal Jersey Military, and served during the Great War on attachment to the 7th Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles on the Western Front. He was killed in action on 1 April 1916, and is buried in Vermelles British Cemetery, France. James Lindie attested for the Royal Scots Fusiliers on 24 September 1914, and served with them during the Great War in Gallipoli from 19 May 1915. He suffered a gun-shot wound to the right hand, that necessitated the middle fingers being amputated, and was discharged to Class ‘Z’ Reserve on 9 March 1919. Alexander Somerville was born in Glasgow and attested there for the King’s Own Scottish Borderers. He served with the 7th/8th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and was killed in action on 3 September 1916. He has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
