London: Printed for Jacob Tonson, 1696. 8° (195 x 115mm). 2 folding engraved plates and a folding table. Early 20th-century calf gilt by C. Smith (spine re-laid, some light browning, label chipped). Provenance : William Beckford The Hamilton Palace Library copy. RARE FIRST EDITION. With the Beckford Collection label of Bernard Quaritch dated July, 1883 on first blank. Ovington sailed as Chaplain of an East India Co. ship and remained in Bombay and Surat, giving excellent descriptions of both cities and particularly of Mogul administration of the region.
