Titles printed in red and black with engraved vignettes, engraved frontispiece by Picart and 130 engraved illustrations in text by Martin Bouche, Pierre-Paul Bouche, Bouttats, Folkeman, Gunst, Jungmann, Schenk and Wandelaar after Lebrun, Leclere, Maas, Picard, Punt, J. Romain, Tosca, de Wit and Vandelaar. (A few tears to half-title, minor browning and staining.) 19th-century red morocco gilt, sides with two triple-fillet borders and floral corner pieces, spine in 7 compartments, gilt lettered in two rest with gilt fanfare design by Petit, edges gilt (light rubbing to joints and edges). Provenance : Edward Laurence Doheny (paper bookplate) -- Estelle Doheny (paper and morocco bookplate). "Magnifique ouvrage," in a fine binding. Cohen-de Ricci 768.
