Beschreibung:

Lot of 8 card-mounted photographs, ranging in size from 6.5 x 4.25 in. to 10 x 8 in., presenting outdoor scenes from various locations including California, Colorado, Michigan, West Virginia, England, and more. Scenes represent a variety of climates and landscapes, among which are a bird's eye view of the San Gabriel Valley captured from the tower of the Raymond Hotel, an early California resort built atop Bacon Hill in 1886, credited to Pierce & McConnell, Los Angeles, CA; a snowy, winter scene from an unidentified mountain town with figures hauling luggage on a sled in the foreground and what appears to be a bakery under construction in the background; a beach in the seaside resort town of Brighton, East Sussex, complete with bathing machines in the foreground, with studio imprint of W. & A.H. Fry; and an uncredited view of the Sainte Marie, an ice-crushing ferryboat active between the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan beginning in 1893. Also with an interesting image of Clay County, WV showing two iterations of the local courthouse: the newer, multi-level building at left, marked "Court House," and the log structure at right, with inscription noting, "Co. Clerk's Office / Circuit Clerk's Office / Old Log Court House - 100 yrs. old." Lot completed by tinted view of Cheyenne Mountain by William E. Hook, documenting the site of the grave of poet and American Indian advocate Helen Hunt Jackson (1830-1885). Photograph shows a large pile of rocks marking Jackson's grave, as well as a tree marked with "HH" in the negative. "Mrs. Jackson's (H.H.) Grave, Cheyenne Mountain" printed at bottom. Condition: Condition varies. Please refer to digital images for conditions of specific photographs.
