In Harley-Davidson terms, ‘evolution’ could mean the progress of the magnificent big twin from F-head, through flathead, knucklehead, panhead, and shovelhead. The Evolution engine brought the Harley up to modern standards. Gone forever were the old fashioned cast iron barrels, and most of all, the oil leaks that always plagued earlier models. A new five speed transmission was also featured, along with trouble free belt final drive. To top it off, the power unit was rubber mounted, allowing Harley riders to savor the familiar v-twin thunder without the butt numbing vibration. Also, it was now possible for a Harley to achieve high milage with very little maintenance. This Harley has covered 220,000 trouble free miles, all put on by one owner, whose only mishap resulted in minor damage to the fairing and crash bars. It has been serviced since new by the original owner. It is a high mileage machine that has never been restored, so why is it desirable? The answer is that it is the very first Evolution Harley to roll off the assembly line. The machine was acquired in 1984 from Harley representative Bruce Chubbick, and Cycle Guide magazine. It was the first of the first batch of four machines produced. As a result of testing this bike, Cycle Guide magazine named it “Motorcycle of the Year” in 1984. It has since proven it has earned the title.
