Back in 1953, Chevrolet's launch of a two-seater sportscar was a radical departure for the marque. Sales were sluggish initially, but a V8 engine and a radical re-style consolidated the 'Vette's position in the market, the model going on to become the world's best-selling and longest-lived sportscar. This remarkable 1962 example, fitted with a 250hp 327cu in V8 and a three-speed manual transmission, is being offered by its original owner. Delivered new to Enoch Chevrolet in South Gate, California, on April 12, 1962, the Corvette retains its original California black license plates as well as a its original owners handbook. Remarkably, the car is offered on a 1965 California pink slip. Special ordered with a factory hard-top, it retains this option today, as well as a custom-made tonneau cover. This Corvette has been used and enjoyed regularly through the years, and while standard maintenance and repairs have been performed, the car has never been restored. It is presented in its original Sateen Silver with red interior and features an early 327 block. According to the vendor, the engine, transmission, body panels, and other drivetrain components are all original to this car. Work performed over the years included a lacquer repaint in the original color as well as re-chroming performed in 1979, a transmission rebuild in 1985, as well as a rebuild of the original V8 engine. In constant service for the past ~50 years, and having provided countless miles of enjoyment for the original owner, the Corvette presents an honest original patina and is consequently the ideal ‘driver’.
