ONE OWNER FROM NEW 1971 ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER SHADOW LONG WHEELBASE SALOON Chassis No. LRX 10137 Brewster green with beige leather interior Engine: V8 overhead valve, 6,750cc., c220bhp; Gearbox: three speed automatic; Suspension: fully independent with automatic hydraulic height control system; Brakes: disc brakes all around. Left hand drive. The first cars built by Rolls-Royce with monocoque construction were the Silver Shadow and T-Series Bentleys. The conventional chassis frame was replaced by a front sub-assembly and a rear sub-assembly for the back axle and suspension. Power was from the 6.2 litre, eight-cylinder, light alloy engine while other features such as hydraulic disc brakes and an improved power-assisted steering system ensured that the new model was mechanically very up-to-date. Although the car did not have any sporting pretentions, it was still quite swift and, as always, accommodated four passengers in great style and comfort. Lastly, the engine displacment was increased to 6,750cc. by lengthening the stroke, this extra power being partly absorbed by the refrigerator compressor system and emission control devices. This Silver Shadow sedan was manufactured in December 1970 and was sold new in early 1971, probably through the Rolls-Royce dealers of Pasadena, Peter Satori Co. Ltd. Certainly this vehicle's first service was carried out there in September 1971 when the mileage was 2,395. Throughout its life this Rolls-Royce has been meticulously cared for and we are told the vehicle was always chauffeur driven. At the time of cataloguing we were unsure of where the car was serviced and/or restored during the early part of its life, however since 1983 it has been serviced and maintained by Independent Rolls-Royce on N. La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles. We are told that prior to 1983 the engine and transmission were fully rebuilt. Since 1983 the car has covered 37,000 miles. At some stage the car has been professionally repainted and new leather fitted. Despite the car now showing 118,000 miles, it is hard to believe that the mileage is not 18,000 as its condition is commensurate with that of a low mileage vehicle. The only minor faults evident upon a recent inspection were a slight scuff on the driver's arm rest, some marks on the driver's door wood veneer, one small paint chip near the fuel filler door and minor scuff marks in the rear bumper overrider. It comes complete with its original sales & service books. This single owner from new, top-of-the range motor car offers exceptional value for money when one considers the price of a more mundane family sedan. from new, top-of-the range motor car offers exceptional value for money when one considers the price of a more mundane family sedan.
