Paraphraste Abalphato Asphahanensi nunc primum editi. Additus in calce Archimedis Assumptorum libe, ex codicibus Arabicis m.ss.(...). Giovanni Alfonso Borelli. Florence, Joseph Cocchini, 1661. (32), 415 pp. Title in red and black, woodcut head- and tailpieces, wc. initials and profusely ill. with wc. diagrams in the text. Cont. limp stiff paper boards, partly restored on spine and edges, folio. Uncut copy.
First edition of the "Conica" by Apollonius of Perga. The first four books were known and translated to Latin. In the 16th century, the Medici family acquired an Arabic manuscript of the 5th, 6th and 7th books, and had them translated and published. Very important treatise for mathematical knowledge of the 17th century. Contemp. ann. on half title "Anno 1663". Occ. trifle spotting/fox., edges sl. frayed, last errata leaf with repairs. With lib. stamp on verso of title-p. from Academia Borussica Rhenana.
