Paris: la veuve Mazières and Garnier, 1728. 8 o (193 x 126 mm). Double columns, engraved title and 3 engraved plates. (Half title and front free endpaper becoming loose.) Contemporary French red morocco elaborately gilt to a "fanfare" design, compartments filled with dotted tools, a central coat-of-arms of Marie Leczinska, Queen of Louis XV (Olivier 2507, fer 1), gilt fleur-de-lys in compartments of spine, edges gilt (some light rubbing); modern slipcase. Provenance : Marie Leczinska (1703-1768) Queen of Louis XV (arms on binding); Hans Fürstenberg (bookplate and pencil note 558); Otto Schäfer (his sale Sotheby's London, Dec 8, 1995 lot 457). The title with the lines "à l'usage de Rome," "Dedié à la Reine" and "Avec Approbation et Privilege du Roy" presumably inked out by a Republican hand.
