Roy qui connaissait l'historique de ce masque: Ce masque a été sculpté par les forgerons de la famille Didiro dans la ville de Houndé, au sud-ouest de Boni au centre du Burkina Faso. Il représente hombo, l'esprit protecteur des forgerons de cette région. Des masques similaires représentent également l'esprit des forgerons à Ouri, au nord-est de Boromo. C'est un exemple fin, élégant et expressif du plus bel art du Burkina Faso. Il est coloré, délicatement sculpté, léger, symétrique et porte les traces d'un usage régulier dans les cérémonies à Houndé. Christopher Roy Par rapport à d'autres masques de ce style, celui-ci par ses dimensions, l'ampleur de la crête rouge qui le domine présente un caractère exceptionnel, alliant le spectaculaire à l'ancienneté de sa patine intérieure ou sous le menton, prise qui permettait au porteur d'assurer la stabilité de ce grand masque ayant conservé son costume en paille. It represents hombo, the protective spirit of the smiths in that area. Similar masks represent the same spirit of the smiths in Ouri, northeast of Boromo. This is a fine, elegant and expressive example of the best work of art from Burkina Faso. It is colorful, well carved, light, symmetrical, and shows evidence of considerable use in performances in Houndé.” Compared to the other masks in the same style, this one is exceptional due to its size and the scope of the red crest. It combines a spectacular and ancient effect due to the patina inside it and under the chin grip, which provided stability to this large mask with its straw costume still intact.
