NORTH ITALIAN SCHOOL, early 16th century The Madonna and Child Enthroned, half length, Saints Anthony and John the Baptist to the left and Saints Lucy and Catherine to the right, three quarter length, The Annunciation in the Roundels above, The Last Supper Below (unrecorded by Schreiber) woodcut from two blocks printed in black on one sheet of paper, with extensive hand-coloring (ultramarine, white, red (?), gold-yellow and grey), on laid paper, watermark Kneeling Angel, trimmed to the borderline or close to the periphery of the subject, some small skillfully made-up losses, repaired splits and tears, the figures of the Madonna and Child with extensive pinholes (almost certainly a result of the application of devotional requests), Their Faces preserved with respect, Their attendant saints similarly treated but to a lesser extent, the colors and sheet showing the usual effects of time and use, however this extremely rare and remarkably large composition in extroradinarily good condition S. 20 x 15 3/16in.
