RetroRocket produced this exact reproduction of North American Aviation's proposal model that was submitted in 1955 for the competition to build a Mach 6 follow-up to the Bell X-2. The hypersonic rocket-powered X-15 would go on to make history, setting speed and altitude records, becoming the first aircraft to fly into outer space and being flown by pilots such as future astronauts Neil Armstrong and Joe Engle. The present model was made with the assistance of the Western Museum of Flight in Torrance, California where the original is held.
