NOEL COWARD (1899-1973) Four signed correspondence items. Comprising: a Typed letter signed Mr. C. with excellent content . Las Vegas: 10 June, no year [ likely 1955]. One page letter on Desert Inn stationery addressed to "Mr. W," signed in ink "Mr. C" and with a two line post-script in ink, the letter regarding a successful performance in Las Vegas (see note). 10 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches (27 x 19 cm). Fine . Acquired from Gary E. Combs Autographs in 1994; a typed note signed , 1935, on sheet on his stationery, with docketing stamp at head, addressed to Harold Freedman in New York (see note), framed with a fine portrait, possibly vintage, framed with Argosy backlabel, not examined out of frame ; a typed note signed , 1972, on "Chalet Coward" stationery, thanking a Mr. Bennett for a "charming letter" and reminding him of an old address, framed with a portrait Not examined out of frame ; and signed Christmas greeting with mounted photograph , depicting Coward smoking and looking stoically at his bronze portrait, signed in ink "Dear Mr. W. Love Mr. C," circa 1959. Acquired from Gary E. Combs Autographs in 1996. In the first letter listed in this group, written while performing in Las Vegas in 1955, Coward writes: "I am most definitely the Belle of the Ball. My opening night was really fabulous. The Nivens, Bogarts, Lufts, Frankie Sinatra flew out and were simply wonderful and of course it was a riot from the word go." In the second item listed, a note signed from 1935, Coward here thanks the recipient for a kind telegram and reports "The press wasn't so good but the business in marvelous, so I won't grumble." In the latest letter, Coward is reminded of his old London address: "III Ebury Street! Oh dear, oh dear, was is a century ago? Or was it the day before yesterday? I honestly don't know which."
