Beschreibung:

Nizami Ganjavi, Khadr-nama, fragmentary text including other sections from the Khamsa, in Farsi, illuminated manuscript on polished paper [Timurid Persia, probably c. 1450] 115 leaves, 4 columns, 26 lines fine black nasta'liq, sometimes forming diagonal shapes within the column, chapter headings in red, 1 illuminated miniature in the text and 3 drawings prepared for painting but not finished, one of these partially coloured in blue, leaves ruled in black and gold, some small scuffs, margins trimmed close to text-block (rarely affecting text), 215 by 150 mm.; modern green buckram, extremities faded This manuscript offers a rare insight into the history of manuscript illumination in Timurid Persia, as some of the miniatures in the text were never completed and remain as preparatory drawings. One of these is partially coloured with a block sections of blue, demonstrating the stages by which such miniatures were drawn and then painted in colours before the gilding and detail were added at the end.
