NIXON, Richard M.] Printed document, ticket for House of Representatives Impeachment Proceedings, to consider the Articles of Impeachment against the President of the United States, 19 August 1974. 1 page, oblong, 2 7/8 x 5½ in., matted and framed with photo of Nixon's famous farewell salute on 9 August 1974 . A TICKET TO THE IMPEACHMENT THAT WASN'T. On 24 July 1974, the Supreme Court unanimously ordered President Richard Nixon to turn over taped conversations concerning the Watergate burglary and cover-up. Days later the House Judiciary Committee recommended articles of impeachment to the full House, and on 5 August the White House released the "smoking gun" tape: Nixon's June 1972 conversation with H. R. Haldeman, ordering him to obstruct the FBI's Watergate investigation. Impeachment and conviction now a certainty, Nixon resigned on 9 August 1974--ten days before the scheduled vote.
