NIETZSCHE, Friedrich Wilhelm (1844-1900). Also sprach Zarathustra. Ein Buch fr Alle and Keinen. Leipzig: Drugulin for Insel-Verlag, 1908.
NIETZSCHE, Friedrich Wilhelm (1844-1900). Also sprach Zarathustra. Ein Buch fr Alle and Keinen. Leipzig: Drugulin for Insel-Verlag, 1908. 4 parts in one volume, 2 o (372 x 253 mm). Double-page ornamental title, printed title with vignette, each part with separate title, head- and tail-pieces, all printed in purple and gold, all after designs by Henry van der Velde, text printed in black and gold, type designed in 1900 by G. Lemmen and Count Harry Kessler. Original vellum, yapp edges, gilt vignette on front cover, spine gilt, both after designs by Henry van der Velde, top edges gilt others uncut (minor staining to lower cover). Provenance : acquired from Ars Libri, 1983. LIMITED EDITION, number 147 of 430 copies from an edition of 530. Beautifully illustrated by the Belgian architect and designer Henry van der Velde (1863-1957) who ranks with his compatriot Victor Horta as an originator of the Art Nouveau style, characterized by long sinuous lines derived from naturalistic forms. Also sprach Zarathustra is Nietzsche's literary and philosophical masterpiece. It consists of four parts, which were published between 1883 and 1885, however the complete work did not appear until 1892. As most of Nietzsche's works, it received little attention during his lifetime. See PMM 370; see Schaberg 45.
