Roman type, rubricated with red Lombard initials, red paragraph signs and underlines. (Marginal repairs to 3 leaves, slight browning to extreme edges, faint dampstain to lower corner, occasional spotting.) Modern calf blind-tooled in the style of the 16th century, spine in five compartments with double raised bands (some rubbing, a few small chips). Provenance : Ned J. Nakles (sale Christie's New York, 17 April 2000, lot 27). FIRST EDITION. Nider's Consolatorium is a discussion of conscience, based in large part on the teachings of St. Augustine, Gregory the Great and various medieval writers. It was printed at least eight times in the fifteenth century. Voullième and Polain date this edition to 1467; a copy is known with a rubricator's date of 1470.
